Los Angeles: Warner Bros has delayed the release of Matt Reeves' superhero sequel "The Batman Part II" for a second time, with the Robert Pattinson-starrer now set to arrive in theatres on February 18, 2028.

The film, which was earlier scheduled to release on October 1, 2027, will now open nearly six years after the first "The Batman" debuted in March 2022.

Reeves announced the new release date on Thursday by sharing the first camera test footage from the film, offering audiences their first look at Pattinson reprising his role as the Caped Crusader.

The brief clip shows Pattinson in Batman's updated suit standing in the rain before turning towards the camera.

"The Batman Part II" was originally slated for release in October 2025 before being postponed to October 2027 following the 2023 Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes.

According to Variety, the latest delay will give Reeves additional time for post-production while allowing Warner Bros to retain the film's planned IMAX release.

Reeves has co-written the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Plot details remain under wraps.

Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne alongside Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Real and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez.

The sequel will also feature Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, Sebastian Koch and Aaron Pierre in undisclosed roles.

"The Batman", released in 2022, grossed more than USD 772 million worldwide and received acclaim for its noir-inspired take on the DC superhero.
